In 2015 it ran a national shortplay-writing competition. We are now planning for the next one to be run in 2018. The winning plays are performed at theatres in Yorkshire. WST has organised two lectures on getting more people into the theatre (as part of the Ilkley Literature Festival), given firstly by Nick Ahad of BBC Radio Leeds and secondly by James Brining, artistic director at WYP. WST sponsors an annual poetry competition with Ilkley LiteratureFestival. In 2017 we will also be sponsoring and supporting a short storycompetition with Leeds-based literature festival, the Big Bookend. Please donate to support our cause.Our charity was setup in memory of Walter Swan who was a teacher, writer, director and theatremanager, who died in 2014 aged 59. We are a small volunteer-led organisation buthave demonstrated that we can put on big events which make a real difference to the writers we connect with.Thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far.
