The Whitworth Trust is a small local charity, formed entirely of volunteers, and was set up to provide support for vulnerable, homeless young women in Cambridge. The Trust takes its name from its association with Whitworth House, a hostel which provides accommodation for vulnerable, homeless young women in Cambridge. Whitworth House was officially opened in May 1998, and is home for up to 15 residents, all aged between 16 and 25. It provides a supporting communal environment for the residents, enabling them to undertake training and qualifications and work towards independence. All of the residents are able to stay in the House for up to two years. The Trust provides support to the hostel and its young residents, but it also raises money to help vulnerable and homeless women in Cambridge more generally, including women of any stage of life, with children or without. To this end we raise money to help local front line agencies, in order to provide emergency and supported accommodation for women in the city.

Heathlands Animal Sanctuary UK (UK, 1067970) Browse events

YTD Raised: £185.50

Heathlands Animal Sanctuary is a registered charity based in Royston, Hertfordshire and is run solely by volunteers dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of unwanted domestic pets. We take in dogs, cats, rabbits and some types of caged birds. Every year we find secure, loving new homes for 300–400 animals, most of whom would otherwise have been destroyed in council pounds when their 7 days are up. We have a policy of non-destruction, which means we will never destroy a healthy, well-balanced animal. We do not have premises—most of our animals are cared for by foster carers in their own homes. By placing our animals in foster homes we get a much better idea of their temperaments, and in particular we can find out if our dogs get along with children, cats and other dogs, as well as introducing some basic training—something many have never had.
