These skills are the actions needed to keep someone alive until professional help arrives. Heartstart is an initiative of the British Heart Foundation. We started in 1996 in conjunction with the ambulance service, fire brigade, voluntary bodies, health authority and school nurses to train as many people as possible in Basic Life Support skills. Our instructors are volunteers from various walks of life. We have trained more than 18,000 people of all age ranges and backgrounds and we need your help to continue to provide emergency life support skills to the people, schools and communities of Herefordshire.

In Scotland there are over 90 ports and although the Mission to Seafarers’ do not have a permanent presence at every port we can be contacted by phone, email or facebook any time day or night. We deliver our service through one full time Chaplain and a band of ship visiting volunteers who are all accredited by the Merchant Navy Welfare Board (MNWB). Through our network of Chaplain and Volunteers we offer practical, emotional and spiritual support to seafarers through ship-visits and at our seafarers' centre in Grangemouth. In addition we are supported by many other volunteers throughout the country who knit wooly hats, deliver talks and Sea Sunday addresses.
