Food, Health, Education, Income Generation, Clean water and Improved Sanitation for Orphaned and Vulnerable Children and their guardians in Tabora, Tanzania TLC Aims: To provide a daily nutritious meal for hungry, vulnerable and orphaned children (OVCs) in Tabora, Tanzania until they or their families have built their own capacity to provide this for themselves (mainly through our projects, providing access to education and jobs). To facilitate access to education for OVCs through buying school uniforms and school supplies and ensuring children are able to and do attend government schools. TLC also links with the Tanzanian Children's Educational Trust to provide access to private schooling through sponsorship. To guard the OVCs and their families against disease and illness with mosquito nets, clean water, improved sanitation and health education. To test children for AIDS, malaria and other diseases and to provide treatment when necessary. To empower the guardians to care for OVCs by developing income generating activities with family members and helping families which have no able breadwinner. To particularly empower girls and women through education and skills training, income generating schemes and improved health care and nutrition to enhance their positive opportunities. * The first 3 photos in our Gallery are of Siobhan, a TLC trustee, with some of the children. In 2009, three nurses from Fife, Lou Davidson, Elaine Stark and Carole Hatten, volunteered to go LaGonave, an island off the coast of Haiti, to immunise children in remote villages. Although their initial focus was on treating the children in these villages, the trip allowed them to visit an orphanage; a building known locally as the "poor house of elderly people" and the hospital. The nurses were so shocked at the conditions encountered at all three locations that they decided to establish the charity "Haitihelp" to try and raise funds to improve the lives of these people. Haitihelp's aim is to financially support projects that will improve the quality of life for the people on the island. Not content with just providing financial aid, Lou Elaine and Carole regularly, through self funding, visit LaGonave to utilise their nursing skills and see first hand the benefits that the Charity's financial support is bringing to the people of the island. In 2013, aided by the support from Haitihelp, the orphaned children were successfully moved to a newly constructed and well equipped children's village . There has been a new hospital built and a new fit for purpose house for the elderly sourced. Despite the success already achieved HaitiHelp recognises that there is still a lot more work to do and the nurses continue to work and fund raise to support and maintain these projects. With a strong belief that the only long term sustainability for the people already helped is to provide them with the resources and tools to help themselves, current projects are focused on the charity providing crops and livestock. This will allow the local community to produce their own food, help boost the local economy and build classrooms to aid education. All money donated goes directly to these projects and nothing is used for personal gain.
Disability Sports Humber is the biggest disability sports charity in the Humber area supporting 100s of disabled people weekly in sport. We so often see how much sport changes people's lives from improving their mental health to giving some time to rest for carers. We work in a number of different ways including: Giving grants to disabled people to keep playing sport, for example a grant for a special sports wheelchair/powerchair Helping to fund the clubs so they can keep open to make sure there will always be sport for all in the area. Holding events to showcase what disability sports can do, whilst also fundraising. Disability sports in the Humber area has a funding gap of over £30,000 a year which we try to bridge with all the work we do, however we need the public’s support to be able to keep 100s of disabled people playing the sports they love so we can continue changing their lives.
Radiant Family Foundation has over the years shone the radiance of benevolence from our sponsors, donors and volunteers onto the lives of disadvantaged children and Young Persons in our communities These children and Young Persons otherwise would have had no hope of: 1. A chance to rewrite their own destinies in the “A pencil of Love in a Bag of Hope” in 2018. 2.Ever walking in shoes to school through the “A Sandal on his Foot” Project in 2017 3.A festive meal over Christmas through the “Feed the Needy project” in 2016 4.Aspiring to become somebody if not for the ongoing “My Mentor My World” project. 5.Vocational training as an alternative through the ongoing “No More Streets” project. The fulfilment of all the above major projects over the years served as a motivation for our dedicated army of volunteers to accept the challenge of this year’s "The Vitality Big Half Marathon" at short notice. In anticipation for a seed capital for this year’s project of reuniting street children with their families, themed “I Need A Destiny Helper”, our volunteers shot down any doubts and are ready to push themselves to the limit over the next four weeks to be in shape for the marathon event on 10th March, 2019. Whilst grateful for your reassuring support over the years, we continue to count on you yet again as a Destiny Helper to a help a street Child run the home-stretch to reunite with their family. We aim to offer a sustainable and lasting solution to life on the street. No act of kindness is ever wasted!
