(UK, SC019119) Browse eventsThe charity which was established under a mining trust provides a major community hall for the inhabitants of Glenrothes (both those who formerly worked in the mining industry and the local community generally). It has sporting sections (Darts, football, golf, angling and snooker which are all very active). It operates minibuses for its member, has trips for the elderly, supports bereavement, makes donations to other local charitable and voluntary organisations and provides cultural and musical entertainment for the community. It operates a community café that is very well used and provides catering for a number of functions. The rooms can be hired out at very low rates (often free dependent on who may be using it) to any local people and groups and it is well used by the Fife Council. The charity is run by a band of volunteers who are the four trustees who give a huge amount of time and work with a management committee in order to undertake these activities and provide rooms for the local community. The principal source of income to operate the charity comes from its wholly owned trading business Glenrothes Recreation Centre and Social Club which operates the bar facility (and gaming facility) the entire profits of which are gift-aided to the charity every year. In addition to the gift-aiding the profits an occupational licence is also paid by the Club to the Charity in the sum of £20,200 per annum.

(UK, 1152602) Browse eventsTYPE 2 DIABETES • GET WISE. CHANGE LIVES. Our aim is to raise awareness of Type 2 Diabetes and to raise vital funding for The Michael Clements Diabetes Centre at Watford General Hospital. Michael Green was a kind and loving husband, father and friend to all, greeting everyone with his smile and warmth. It was devastating for his family and friends when he died, but through this charity, we can prevent others from suffering the same loss and thus create something good from something so tragic. With the first £10k that was raised, we built an educational dietetic kitchen at the diabetes centre at Watford General Hospital as a resource for current diabetes patients and others within our community. Our next major projects include: • providing specialist nurse training at the diabetes centre at Watford General Hospital • providing more specialst equipment for the diabetes centre. We are also in the early stages of producing a recipe book, with dishes that have been specially donated from well-known chefs, with a focus on health and diabetic-friendly foods. The book will also have useful information about diabetes, with some personal accounts from those who have lived with, and reversed their diabetic conditions...truly remarkable accounts! There are many other events planned for the coming months so please check back here regularly to see what's happening. You can also visit our website for news and for updates on our latest activities. Through collaborations with West Herts NHS Trust, The Mayor of St Albans, local business sponsorship and our trusty team of dedicated volunteers, we will continue to spread the word that a healthy lifetstyle will help to prevent Type 2 diabetes. www.michaelgreenfoundation.org Thank you for your kind donation - it is greatly appreciated. ____________________________________________________________ Sunday 13th July British 10K - London Run We have a number of runners taking part in this year's British 10K on behalf of The Michael Green Foundation.
