From our innovative facility, "The Safe", we educate children and young people about personal safety and wellbeing- our facility is designed to mimic 8 real-life environments and experiences ranging from traditional topics such as road safety and home safety, to more unconventional ones that we have seen become more prevalent in recent years- cyber security, risk of vaping, pro-social behaviour, responsible alcohol consumption and mental wellbeing. We have rooms designed as a park, beach, bedroom, kitchen etc. so the young people are taken on an adventure while gaining lifesaving skills. Our aim is to empower our young users by giving them the skills and knowledge to become aware and responsible for their own safety and wellbeing- so when situations arise in their life, they have practiced for it in a safe environment and know how to handle situations, both physically and mentally.

YTD Raised: £30.00Special Olympics Gateshead Sporting Club - a registered charity, which provides opportunities for people with learning disabilities in Gateshead to undertake weekly sports training and compete in regional, national and international competitions. Special Olympics Gateshead was accredited by the Great Britain Board in April 2014 and you may have seen footage of us on both Tyne Tees and BBC (Look North) local TV news on Friday 30th May 2014, when Lawrie McMenemy, (Special Olympics GB President) was in attendance. The Special Olympics programme is the 3rd strand of the Olympics, alongside the Olympics and Paralympics. Unlike the other two organisations, the Special Olympics programme continually struggles for fundraising and our ability to buy sports equipment, rent sporting venues or travel to local and national competitions is very much down to our own fundraising endeavours.
