Open Door (North East) provides poverty relief in the North East of England particularly on Teesside. We provide housing, food, sign posting and friendship to destitute asylum seekers whatever their ethnic, religious, cultural or gender background. We also provide housing for new refugees helping individuals to take steps into independent living and empowerment in the UK. We aim to provide services to the poorest and most marginalized in society and in particular to those with no recourse to public funding; with no right to work; and with no statutory provision of food and shelter. We currently manage 9 houses housing 38 people. We run a drop in for food, friendship and sign posting to other agencies. We hope to have a new Night Shelter up and running in 2011 and to increase our program of social inclusion and personal empowerment. We also hope to start providing English Classes (ESOL). On behalf of all those we serve we would like to say a big thank you for your support and financial contribution.
We aim to offer children opportunities which allow them to grow in confidence and self esteem to help them contribute to their community and society. We are located in a very deprived area and offer activities which children would not otherwise get a chance to participate in.
