(UK, 1010973) Browse eventsAge UK Exeter is an independent, autonomous charity governed by a locally elected board of trustees. We have been meeting the wants and needs of older people in Exeter for over 25 years. We employ 125 dedicated staff and are supported by 250 regular volunteers who give their time, skills and enthusiasm so generously each week to make a difference for older people in the city. They are resource of which Exeter should be hugely proud. All the funds we raise directly benefit older people and their families in Exeter. We provide over 38 different activities, groups and services from Tai Chi and computer classes to supporting people with dementia illnesses. We support 1000 older people every week. We work in every ward in Exeter. Last year we helped local older people achieve over £500,000 in additional health related benefits which help maintain independence and well-being. We don’t just react to need, we are committed to preventing isolation, loneliness, poverty and poor health and finally, we are completely independent and responsible for all our own fund raising through charitable trust applications, community fund raising activities and the generous donations of local people.
(UK, 1159197) Browse eventsYoung Womens Outreach Project has been running for 21 years. We work with young women and young mothers in Gateshead aged 11-19yrs. We support, guide young women through crisis in their lives. These Crises can be finding out that they are pregnant, problems or struggling in schools, mental health issues, rape, self harm, lack of confidence and self belief, violence or sexual exploitation, the list goes on and on. Many of these young women and mothers are referred into the project by a vast range of professionals or themselves. Once we receive a referral we visit young woman to assess needs and ensure that we are the right people to support them. We are often involved with safeguarding and we ensure our role is about supporting that young woman through the process, with open and an honest approach no matter how difficult. We offer one to one support and group work programmes, and often signpost to other services and professionals who met their needs. Intervention time can be as little as 6 weeks to 18 months. They feel less alone, listened to and supported in issues that are affecting their lives at the time. They develop positive relationships, gain support; they learn coping mechanisms and strategies. Progression leads to young women gaining accreditation, many of the young women who attend do not have any qualifications due to the complexity and the issues in their lives. We aim to re- engage young women and mothers back into education, training or employment.

(UK, 1152602) Browse eventsTYPE 2 DIABETES • GET WISE. CHANGE LIVES. Our aim is to raise awareness of Type 2 Diabetes and to raise vital funding for The Michael Clements Diabetes Centre at Watford General Hospital. Michael Green was a kind and loving husband, father and friend to all, greeting everyone with his smile and warmth. It was devastating for his family and friends when he died, but through this charity, we can prevent others from suffering the same loss and thus create something good from something so tragic. With the first £10k that was raised, we built an educational dietetic kitchen at the diabetes centre at Watford General Hospital as a resource for current diabetes patients and others within our community. Our next major projects include: • providing specialist nurse training at the diabetes centre at Watford General Hospital • providing more specialst equipment for the diabetes centre. We are also in the early stages of producing a recipe book, with dishes that have been specially donated from well-known chefs, with a focus on health and diabetic-friendly foods. The book will also have useful information about diabetes, with some personal accounts from those who have lived with, and reversed their diabetic conditions...truly remarkable accounts! There are many other events planned for the coming months so please check back here regularly to see what's happening. You can also visit our website for news and for updates on our latest activities. Through collaborations with West Herts NHS Trust, The Mayor of St Albans, local business sponsorship and our trusty team of dedicated volunteers, we will continue to spread the word that a healthy lifetstyle will help to prevent Type 2 diabetes. www.michaelgreenfoundation.org Thank you for your kind donation - it is greatly appreciated. ____________________________________________________________ Sunday 13th July British 10K - London Run We have a number of runners taking part in this year's British 10K on behalf of The Michael Green Foundation.
