Horizon Legal Advice Clinic (UK, 1165006) Browse events

YTD Raised: £502.50

Horizon is a specialist legal advice clinic which was launched with the aim of providing free legal advice to all members of the public on PIP and ESA related matters. It was founded in 2016 by a group of undergraduates, several of whom were student advisers at the Queen Mary Legal Advice Clinic. We have grown considerably over the years having partnered with an increasing number of law firms and having recruited more volunteer advisers. We are passionate about helping those in need by providing free initial legal advice. The impetus behind our initiative was the drastic cut to the Legal Aid budget by the government which left many people without any access to justice. Our purpose is to advise members of the public on their legal position and the options available to them. We aim to provide a niche, sophisticated end to end service in matters relating to Personal Independence Payments and Employment and Support Allowance. We will assist in a variety of ways including: • Drafting written Legal Advice Letters setting out eligibility for PIP/ESA and next steps; • Initiating a claim which involves filling in a Claim Form received from the Department for Work and Pensions; • Preparing clients for a Face-to-Face Assessment; and • Challenging a DWP decision by: (i) requesting a Mandatory Reconsideration; and/or (ii) Appealing to a Tribunal or Upper Tribunal.

Ross Nugent Foundation (IE, CHY19398) Browse events

YTD Raised: €502.15

Ross Nugent was a fun-loving 18 year-old who loved nothing more than the company of his family and friends. Ross loved to make people laugh and this was one of the many reasons why so many people simply enjoyed his company. Ross was passionate about music, dance and art. He loved to sketch for his own enjoyment and even created drawings fo some of his friends as gifts. The space on this page is not enough to allow us to tell you of Ross's many gifts and talents. Today, we still hear stories of things that Ross did for people. It was never in his personality to tell us what he did and how he helped others. He simply did it because that is what came naturally to him. Ross touched many people during his 18 years in this world and continues to touch people although he departed from us on the 15th of May 2010. During his treatment for a rare form of bone cancer called Ewings Sarcoma, Ross only ever spoke of the things he would do when he came through it. This included a promise to his mother, Sandra, that he would raise money to buy a blood pressure monitor for St Clares Oncology Ward in Beaumont Hospital. He wanted to make life more comfortable for the patients, relations and nursing staff. Unfortuntely, Ross was never given that opportunity. The Ross Nugent Foundation was set up in his name to carry out his promise.
