OneSight is a global foundation, founded by Luxottica – a world leader in eye care and eyewear. OneSight believes clear vision is a basic right, not a luxury. We are committed to helping people see more clearly through clinics, research and education programs. For more than 20 years OneSight has provided free eye health checks and eyewear to almost eight million people around the world. In Australia, we work in partnership with organisations such as the Salvation Army, Mission Australia and the Benevolent Society, and have improved the vision of more than 200,000 people in communities with restricted access to basic eye care services since 2003. In addition to clinics in schools, regional, remote and Indigenous communities, we are there to support our customers in times of natural disaster, such as the NSW Bushfires, Queensland Floods and Christchurch earthquake, through the provision of free eyewear. In partnership with our international colleagues and through OneSight’s global clinic program, we assist disadvantaged people in countries around the world.

Dr Nana (UK, SC045750) Browse events

YTD Raised: £492.00

Dr Nana aims to protect and improve the health of people living in rural Ghana by funding health-related projects. We are a Scottish Charitable IncorporatedOrganisation (SC05750) established in 2015 in memory of Dr Nana Gruer, a Ghanaian-borndoctor who died in 2013 aged 60. We are focusing on the northern district of Talensi, one of the poorest parts of Ghana where most people live in mud or cement huts and scrape a living by subsistence farming, at the mercy of unreliable rains. There is widespread under-nutrition andmalaria is a constant threat. Our first big project is to raise £23,000 to build and equip a small maternity ward in the village of Balungu. Currently, mothers have to give birth with minimal facilities and privacy. In partnership with the District Health Service and the Nubian Vault Association, we will use an ancient Egyptian building method, ideal for hot dry areas. Locally made clay bricks are used for the walls, a vaulted roof and window and door arches, minimising timber or metal use. Much cheaper, but longer-lasting, cooler inside, eco-friendly and built by locals. Find out more: The project should allow generations of women to give birth safely and with dignity, help train future midwives and add jobs and money to the local economy. Charity No: SC045750
