MORE ABOUT THE CHARITY:The Pattenmakers Company Charitable Foundation is the charity arm of The Worshipful Company of Pattenmakers, one of the City of London Livery Companies. The trade of pattenmaking - pattens were undershoes for lifting shoes out of the grime of city streets - dates from at least the 12th century although the Company was not founded until 1670. Read more at www.pattenmakers.co.uk. The Charitable Foundation's principal activity today is the support of design and bespoke fabrication of orthopaedic shoes, particularly for injured British servicemen. The Charitable Foundation maintains a very strong link with both the Defence Military Rehabilitation Centre at Headley Court and with bespoke shoemakers around the UK. Amongst other beneficiaries of the Charitable Foundation are young people in the shoe trade and at City of London Schools, including the Guldhall School of Music & Drama; the Pattenmakers' Guild Church of St Margaret Pattens and London's homeless; and affiliations with each of Her Majesty's armed services. As a Cuity of London Livery Company, there are various aspects of City life, including in particular the Lord Mayor's Annual Charity Appeal, that also receive support.
