The White Knight Foundation is here to draw attention to the prevalence and absolute stupidity of unprovoked youth violence whilst raising funds to young victims and their families to help them on their journey to recovery. The White Knight Foundation was established in August 2013 from the result of a non-provoked attack on Liam Knight, where a 2.8m long steel rod was thrown, striking Liam, piercing through his skull. Fortunately, Liam survived, but he continues to endure a long road of rehabilitation from the brain damage he suffered. After months of witnessing Liam’s determination and fight to get back to his former self, it was evident that there are other victims that need help and support so they too, can get back to their physical and mental best.

The Immune Deficiency Foundation of Australia Limited (AU, 99117585976) Browse events

YTD Raised: $0.00

The Immune Deficiencies Foundation Australia is a not-for-profit health promotion charity raising awareness and caring for people who have Primary Immune Deficiencies (PIDs). IDFA was formed in 2005 with support from the IDF/KIDS foundation of New Zealand, which was founded in 1987. IDFA is part of the Immune Deficiency Foundation Asia-Pacific Alliance and a member of IPOPI (International Patient Organisation for Primary Immunodeficiencies). IDFA has the support of leading Immunology health professionals both in Australia, New Zealand and Internationally. An Immune Deficiency is a disorder where the immune response (the body’s defence system) is reduced or absent. Primary Immune Deficiencies (PIDs) are caused by defects in the genes that control the immune system, so people with PID are born missing some or all of the parts of the immune system. PIDs are not related to AIDS, which is caused by a viral infection (HIV). While not contagious, these diseases are caused by genetic defects and can affect anyone, regardless of age or sex. The World Health Organisation recognizes more than 200 primary immunodeficiency diseases. There is no cure for the majority of PIDs. PIDs can be mild, severe and in some cases fatal. The main issue is increased susceptibility to infections affecting the sinuses, ears, lungs, bowel and skin. If not diagnosed early, these organs become permanently damaged. Even with treatment, the damage cannot be reversed. Many people with PID also have autoimmune conditions such arthritis, lupus and bowel disease. PIDs include: Common Variable Immune Deficiency (CVID), Hypogammaglobulinaemia, Specific Antibody Deficiency (SAD), Hereditary Angioedema (HAE), Chronic Granulomatous Disease (CGD), X-Linked Agammaglobulinaemia (XLA), IgA deficiency, Hyper IgM Syndrome, Hyper IgE Syndrome, WHIM and Severe Combined Immune Deficiency (SCID). Treatments include Immunoglobulin replacement therapy (IVIg in hospital, SCIg at home), interferon gamma injections, antibiotics, steroids and in some PIDs, bone marrow transplant. IDFA is committed to providing education and resources, linking members via teleconferencing and events, and improving patient care and quality of life for those affected by primary immune deficiencies. IDFA offers education and social and emotional support for PID patients and their families. The Foundation’s primary aims are: to educate and raise awareness of primary immune deficiencies within the general and medical communities to provide education, resources and emotional support for those with PID, their carers and families improving patient care and quality of life for our members affected by primary immune deficiencies.

Pollinate Energy Ltd (AU, 96161067492) Browse events

YTD Raised: $0.00

On July 31st 2012 India experienced the world’s largest blackout. 600 million people were plunged into darkness. But what wasn’t reported is that every night in India there are 292 million people still in the dark.     Pollinate Energy is a non-for-profit startup co-founded by 5 Australians, designed to develop the next generation of leaders and social entrepreneurs while bringing renewable energy to people living in poverty. We work on India with a focus on urban slums – homeless families who live in poverty, in tents. There are 20,000 of these people in our base of Bangalore alone.   These families don’t have electricity – so their kids can’t study at night, and they can’t work, store food, or access information.   .   Pollinate Energy taps into this entrepreneurial spirit, using locally manufactured solar systems to provide light to families living in poverty. These renewable systems are designed to cost no more than what these families spend on energy at the moment. We train local entrepreneurs – teaching them how to sell, finance, install and maintain systems.     Through a student Fellowship program, Pollinate Energy will help to provide this support, while training the next generation of social entrepreneurs
