One Girl is a non-profit organisation on a mission to educate 1 million girls across Africa by 2020. We believe that every girl has the right to an education—no matter where she is born, how much her parents earn, what her culture says, or what religion she adheres to. Every girl deserves the opportunity to learn, grow and be the best she can be. And when you educate a girl, she can change her world. We currently work in Sierra Leone, West Africa—one of the world’s worst places to be born a girl. A girl born in Sierra Leone is more likely to be sexually assaulted than she is to attend high school. Only one in six girls are able to attend high school, 28 per cent will be married before they are 15, and one in eight will die during child birth. But we can change all of that. We work to educate and empower girls through scholarships, school awesomisation (making schools safe learning environments), business training and providing access to sanitary pads. The Heart Foundation’s mission is to save lives by educating the public about heart disease, promoting early detection, and supporting the research taking place under the direction of world-renowned cardiologist Dr. P.K. Shah in the quest to find more effective ways to prevent and treat the #1 cause of death in the U.S. We dedicate ourselves to this mission in memory of Steven S. Cohen, an incredible husband, father, son, brother and friend.
