Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team (UK, 1170178) Browse events

YTD Raised: £155.00

Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team has been assisting people in the western fells for almost 50 years. It is one of twelve Teams in the Lake District Search and Rescue Association (LDSAMRA). The Team consists of 40 fell going volunteers / base operators. Each year they respond to around 100 ‘999’ calls from the police to rescue people who are injured or lost in the local mountains. They also assist other organisations when requested. For example, in December 2015 the team assisted rescuing people affected during the severe flooding caused by Storm Desmond. 2016 was the fourth busiest on record for the team with 117 ‘999’ calls received of which 73 led to some response on the fells. The Rescue Team provides a free 24-hour per day 365 days a year service to the public. They are tasked primarily by Cumbria Constabulary who has primacy of search and rescue for inland areas. The Team operates in a geographical area that covers principally the Wasdale and Eskdale valleys but extends over Cold Fell towards the coast in the north and onto Ulpha Fell in the South. England’s highest mountain Scafell Pike is part of our area and is the scene for many rescues. For more information please visit Wasdale MRT www.wmrt.org.uk
