Wildlife conservation is a major concern across the globe, as species and their habitats face a number of threats such as habitat destruction, the illegal wildlife trade, pollution, competition from introduced species and climate change many of which are caused by human activities. The Whitley Wildlife Conservation Trust co-ordinates seven regional conservation programmes in the UK and overseas. These projects strive to protect and preserve endangered species whilst undertaking vital research.

These Services include:• Residential care for over 40 children and young adults per year• Counselling for nearly 400 teenagers and their families from 6 locations• Support services for 60 young people leaving care• A further range of education and family supports for young people in crisis• Drug and alcohol counselling and information services for families and Adult supports We offer a range of programmes designed to help people who are coping with loss, isolation, the effects of drug and alcohol abuse, mental health problems and homelessness. These services include:• 3 residential projects which help people move along the path from homelessness to having a home of their own• Housing and welfare information and advice for close to 3000 people per year in our city centre clinics• 3 food Centres providing over 180,000 meals to people who are isolated, house bound or unable to care for themselves• A food bank that redistributes over 600 tonnes of surplus food and products to charities across Dublin• 8 carer support groups and one-to-one support and counselling for people who are under pressure caring for a loved one in their own homes Strengthening Communities We offer a further range of advocacy, support and educational services that assist people within their own communities at local level. These services include:• A community education network that helps over 40 local second chance education projects• Projects supporting Travellers including a suicide prevention initiative• A migrant project helps over 3,000 people a year - including Irish people emigrating and returning and those new to Ireland emigrants returning home and those living in Ireland for the first time• A disability project that works to achieve access to facilities and services for all abilities and runs social activities for people of mixed abilities• We are setting up bases throughout the Diocese from which we can offer services and host community initiatives beginning with Blanchardstown, Finglas and Arklow.
