Southgate Symphony Orchestra is over 50 years old and welcomes musicians of Grade 6 and above to perform classical and romantic orchestral music. Our concerts in and around the Enfield area attract audiences aged 5 to 95, who may be music lovers or simply want to open their ears to something they've not heard before. Originally known as Gloucestershire County Association for the Blind (GCAB), the charity was set up in 1858 to help those with failing eyesight. Records indicate that by 1922, the number being cared for was around 600 people. Today, this local charity provides information and support for over 3000 people with significant sight loss. Unfortunately, there is every indication that, due to an ageing population, these numbers will continue to increase year on year. It is predicted that by 2050, the number of people with sight loss in the UK will be nearly 4 million. Every day, 100 people in the UK start losing their sight. Our Aims To support people with significant sight loss in Gloucestershire so they can continue to enjoy their lives and retain their independence.
