(UK, 1132859) Browse eventsSt Lawrence’s Church, Stoak is a Grade II* listed building which together with St Thomas & All Saints forms the parish of Ellesmere Port in Cheshire. The church has provided a place for people to worship, be baptised, married and buried for over 700 years. The time has come for us to ensure that St Lawrence continues to be available for these purposes by carrying out much needed restoration work to the roof and the stonework before time runs out. Corroded metal fixings mean that all the slates on the roof are loose and crumbling stone window frames let in rain and wind. The St Lawrence Restoration Fund has been set up to raise funds to enable this work to go ahead. We are also seizing the opportunity to put a time capsule in the form of a hard drive in the roof at the time of the restoration. The capsule will provide future generations with an insight into Ellesmere Port as it is today through videos, photographs, testimonials, newspaper cuttings and street maps.

There are too many people battling with low self worth and through a series of presentations to schools, pastoral leaders, parents, charities, churches and businesses inspiration is offered. Powerful testimony and key principles aim to redirect thinking. The charity is led and was founded by James Shone. He had many years of experience in the education sector and was appointed to be a headmaster in July 2012. He was then diagnosed with a brain tumour which changed the course of his journey. After receiving 27 hours of brain surgery, James lost the majority of his sight. This meant that he was not able to fulfill his career ambitions but was able to exercise his natural pastoral passion in the form of this charity.
(UK, 287194) Browse eventsHappy Landings provides care, shelter and veterinary attention for stray, abandoned and neglected animals. We rescue, rehabilitate & rehome and provide ongoing support to new owners as required. We are first and foremost an animal shelter, although we do have a council licensed boarding facility for dogs and cats which helps to pay for the welfare work. The boarding section is very much in demand and spaces are booked very early. We no longer board rabbits, guinea pigs etc. The charity owns the 5 acre site, and is a mixed animal shelter, taking in all types of animals. We are unable to take exotics. The centre can take approximately 300 domestic and farm animals, and we re-home about 300 animals a year plus several hundred ex battery hens. The team of staff and volunteers offer shelter and hope. Happy Landings works with Dog wardens, Vets, Police, Social Services and other shelters. We are full at all times and have to work on a waiting list system with the demand for rescue spaces being very high. Many animals have to be nursed back to health and more have to be re-habilitated before carefully chosen, loving homes are found. We pride ourselves on our match-making ability and it is rare that an animal has to be returned to us.
