First Aid 4 Gambia (UK, SCO40837) Browse events

YTD Raised: £175.00

Every year, many people in Gambia get seriously ill or die due to the lack of primary health care which the country simply can not afford. Many deaths and infections could be prevented with basic up to date knowledge and equipment. In Gambia more than one million people rely on three overstretched government run hospitals for their medical care. The requirement for good First Aid would seem obvious to us, yet access to even basic equipment and training remains poor. First Aid training and supplies can help the Gambians respond to daily health related problems and possible life threatening situations. Now more than ever, we need your help. First Aid 4 Gambia is targeted First Aid training and equipment for staff and helpers at schools and nurseries in Gambia. By donating money or volunteering to run a fund raising event you will help our team continue their valuable work. You could also volunteer to join our outreach team in Gambia for a week or two, where you can help deliver crucial life saving training and equipment to those who need it the most. Since starting in Sept 2009 we have built up to supplying and training 60 schools which have over 12,000 pupils. Every year we put about 600 teachers, assistants and community members through a UK based First Aid course. We also pass on equipment to 4 clinics.  We rent a compound which employs 3 full-time Gambian staff and we employ two Gambians whom we have trained to become first aid trainers.  We achieve all of  this on an annual budget of approx £12,500.

Love From Lucy (UK, 1196636) Browse events

YTD Raised: £175.00

Love From Lucy is a charity based in Hampshire for solid organ transplant recipients up to the age of 21 years old who are being treated in UK hospitals and who develop Post Transplant Lymphoproliferative Disorder (PTLD). This is a rare cancer that patients can develop at any stage after their transplant. Lucy Pearson is the driving force behind this charity. She was diagnosed with an aggressive form of PTLD. Unfortunately this was a battle too big for her and she sadly passed away on the 28th March 2021, aged just 21. Love from Lucy supports patients up to the age of 21 who have had a heart, liver, lung, kidney or multi organ transplant who unfortunately find themselves to have developed the same rare and aggressive post-transplant cancer that Lucy did. We want to help make patient’s stays in hospital easier for them to cope with by providing things they may need, as well as supporting parents.

Ashridge Nursery Parents Association (UK, 279999) Browse events

YTD Raised: £175.00

Ashridge Nursery Parents Association was established 30 years ago as a community based registered charity to provide and advance Nursery education for children from the age of three until they reach compulsory school age. Our highly qualified staff of nine has over 100 years of experience in providing quality care and educational provision to the under fives. To ensure quality, the Association has a policy of ensuring a minimum staff to child ratio of 1:6 which is significantly higher than the legal requirement. Local Authority funding of children’s entitlement to “free” Early Years education is significantly below the costs of providing the service to children and their parents. As a consequence the Association is heavily reliant on fund raising in order to maintain quality while remaining viable. The Association is very grateful to all the fund raisers and sponsors who support and enable it to continue it’s work. For more information please do visit our website.
