Situated in the centre of Hastings, East Sussex, Xtrax was formed as a charity in 1994 in response to a growing need for an independent and confidential service aimed at disaffected young people who were not connecting with the existing education, health and social provision. Xtrax operates as a ‘drop-in’ Centre where disadvantaged or at risk young people can access a range of confidential services, have a nutritious meal, take a shower, or just relax. Xtrax is non-judgemental and, unlike many organisations, it is open during afternoons, evening, weekends and Bank Holidays when young people can be most vulnerable. The drop-in centre provides an accessible and safe place for young people to get advice and support on issues that are impacting on their lives, and we regularly have young people attending who are homeless or in temporary accommodation, and some of the main issues presented include teenage pregnancy, mental health concerns, self harm, housing issues, alcohol, substance misuse, poverty, budgeting, relationship/personal issues and work/education concerns. Xtrax is widely known among the young population and addresses the fact that young people may not know where to go for help and can be extremely wary of statutory service providers. Xtrax works daily with young people at risk of educational and employment exclusion. The young people who access our centre have had few or no positive leaning experiences and as a result have few or no qualifications and therefore have few or no employment opportunities. Over 50% are care leavers and currently 60% are NEETS. The educational system has been a difficult place for them and to have the opportunity to study and learn and gain new confidence in their learning abilities, and educational resilience, within a warm, safe and trusted environment such as Xtrax can only be beneficial.
We provide opportunities for emerging photographers and enable them to produce photographic work that conveys unheard or marginalised human stories, articulating injustice and the need for social or political change. Rebecca Vassie Trust is set up in memory of Rebecca Vassie, a promising photographer and photojournalist, who died suddenly in 2015 while on assignment in Uganda. Our goals are to support emerging photographers and promote the art of narrative photography.
The Jo Walters Trust provides opportunities to help people enrich their lives and the lives of others, through sport, outward bound, educational and environmental projects, both at home and abroad.
Rugby gymnastics Club is a well established venue providing inclusive gymnastics to the whole community with over 1000 members. The club has squads in all disciplines with representation at regional, national and within the British elite squads. We also have an academy for developing young coaches.
The Patchwork Foundation is a charity supporting disadvantaged and underrepresented communities in public life. Patchwork empowers young people from underprivileged backgrounds by equipping them with the skills and opportunities to engage in key policy areas that directly shape their communities.
Our vision is to empower orphaned children through sustainable solutions, shifting the mindset from dependency towards a self-sufficient, more hopeful future.
Raising funds to support local charities
A team of volunteers rescuing, protecting, caring for and re-homing the cats of Liverpool and Merseyside.
The Battens Charitable Trust was set up in 1985 to enable grants to be made for charitable purposes within Somerset and Dorset and have donated £500,000 so far to local schools, youth organisations, hospitals and hospices, local foodbanks, wildlife organisations, disability groups and more.
The aim of the Friends is to raise money for the school which might be used to fund projects or buy specific equipment that might not otherwise be possible. As a school we are in a great position in terms of the generosity of people in attending fundraising events, donating goods, spending money at the events and helping to organise these events. Long may that continue! The fund raising activities also provide a really good opportunity to have a good time.
We help young people to realise and raise their ambitions and aspirations to create better life choices and chances. We work with local businesses, pupils and parents, and the local community.
The Forgotten Heroes charity, Charity Registration Number 1140819 is dedicated to assisting our wounded or injured Servicemen and women together with their families and carers whose lives have changed dramatically in the service of their country.
