After a one million pound redevelopment, Portishead Youth Centre is a community centre by day and a youth club by night. The Portishead Youth Centre was officially opened on Saturday May 21st 1966 at a total cost of £18,000 and within a year the centre was expanded further in 1967 to include an all weather play area and an arts room. The Youth Centre was leased by North Somerset Council to a voluntary committee who manage the centre on behalf of the town of Portishead. This has all changed though. North Somerset Council removed funding for youth work and youth clubs from April 2012. With changes to funding, Portishead Youth Centre is moving towards using the amazing facilities to the full with support from the local community.
