FOCC Mid-Sussex is the local branch of a nation-wide charity supporting children living in the Mogilev region of Belarus. Each summer we bring a group of 15 children aged 7-12 years to Sussex for a month of respite aiming to support their immune systems. The children come from very poor homes, in a region still heavily affected by ongoing pollution from the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. While in the UK, each child stays with a local host family, and benefits from dental and eye checks, plenty of wholesome food, and clean air. They also take part in a range of fun-filled activities that they would very rarely get the chance to experience at home. At the end of the month the children are sent home with bags bursting with clothing, toiletries and gifts which their families back in Belarus find invaluable. It costs £650 to bring each child, every year, and we aim to bring them for 4 consecutive years, allowing them the chance to form strong bonds with their UK host family.
