(UK, EW91198) Browse eventsWelcome to Pawsome Pensions . We are a new charity that has been set up to help support our retired Police and Fire dogs from Devon, Dorset & Cornwall Police Service and Fire & Rescue Service. We are incredibly fortunate that our Police and Fire dogs receive a one off payment from the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner and the Fire service when they retire to help with equipment, food and veterinary maintenance, but as you can imagine this doesn't last long. So it is our intention to enhance this generous donation and raise money to ensure our dogs receive the best healthcare possible, ensuring they have an excellent quality of life in their retirement years. It is the least we can do for the years they've spent working for us and protecting out communities. We are a "not for profit" charity and all monies raised will be used to help pay towards vet bills for our retired dogs and raise further money. A working Police or Fire dog can serve many years, providing an invaluable service to the communities they work in and the officers they work with. When a dog retires the handler or the new adopter take on the full responsibility for that dog and all the financial commitments of caring for a retired working dog. Most dogs will retire at the end of their service, however some retire early due to illness or injury. Seeking insurance for medical care of a retired Police/Fire dog is possible but it can be very difficult. Due to their job and their age at retirement it comes at a premium price. This insurance will also not cover any pre-existing injuries/illnesses that may have been sustained through the dogs working life. So we want to help our four legged legends. Now they have retired and given up their licence to work, we want to give them a “Licence to Chill". Thank you in advance for any support and help you can offer us.

We operate as Touch Africa (UK), an extension of Touch Africa (South Africa) that was formed in 2008 (www.touchafrica.eu). The Transkei or Wild Coast of South Africa holds the 10 worst places in the world to be a child (Sunday Times March 2008). Our mission is to help get the children of this area educated and hopefully they will begin to help themselves. To do this we strive simply to make School a better place than home by the provision of electricity, audio visual aids, classrooms, container kitchens, sports equipment and desks and chairs. We are lucky to be blessed by so many voluntary supporters so a maximum of benefit is derived from your donations. It is truly suprising how much difference you can really make to these childrens lives for ever. Our charity has simple objectives are:To advance education, relieve need and promote health for children, in particular but not limited to children in South Africa, by the provision of facilities, services, funds or resources for projects that can achieve these aims.
