(UK, SC045020) Browse eventsTriple As is an Autism Peer Support Group, where even our support workers, volunteers and executive trustees are autistic. We are aimed at people with autism above the age of 14. There's no upper age limit or other restriction other than the member must be on the autistic spectrum. Our main aim is to locate individuals who have become socially isolated, and help them surmount their oppressive anxiety and depression. When autistic minds are nurtured and well looked after, they can realise their potential. Barriers to this are:Developmental delays get confused for developmental impossibilities - so education stops.Melt downs are avoided at all costs. Avoiding melt downs is not a bad strategy, but this tends towards avoiding all stressful situations full stop rather than building up tolerance. This leads to significantly limited choices and exclusion. As autistic children become autistic grown ups they find themselves more and more socially isolated, and forgotten. The key to our success at Triple As, is that we take teens, and older, and help them build tolerance towards the world. Through autistic peer support and mentoring we find inherent understanding that knows when to push and when to provide respite. We acknowledge the harsh realities of life then gently encourage bespoke coping mechanisms. (UK, SCO33691) Browse eventsWe are a small charity working in Dhaka city, Bangladesh, amongst the poorest people of the slums and busties, bringing hope into desperate lives. Asha began by providing basic literacy training to street girls, offering them a first step on the ladder of self-respect and hope. Over the years more than 300 illiterate teenagers have received basic education that they would otherwise have been denied. Many of these girls have now gone on to receive work-training and experience in one of our Next Steps Asha training centres. Here they learn practical skills and produce a variety of craft goods and hand-embroidered fashion accessories. We are completely dependent on the kind donations of our supporters and funds raised through the sale of Next Steps Asha products. All the money we receive goes directly towards the cost of maintaining the education centres, paying wages to girls and local staff and to the provision of medical help and support in cases of need. Please visit the Meider Jonno Asha website for more information, up to date news on our projects, and stories of lives that have been changed.
