Music In Detention (UK, 1119049) Browse events

YTD Raised: £420.00

Music In Detention brings music to migrants detained in the UK and connects them with local communities. If you flee to the UK from torture, war or poverty, you can at any time be locked up in an immigration detention centre for days, months, or even years, while your application to remain is processed. People who have lived in the UK since childhood can also be detained if the government views them as being in the country illegally. Detention has no time limit and many describe it as mental torture. Thousands of people go through this experience every year. Sometimes in life we can't explain what's happening, but by making music we can express how it feels. Music In Detention runs music-making sessions in detention centres to help people whose lives are on hold feel human again, giving them strength and hope for the future. We work with local groups to write and record songs with detainees, so that they can work together, support each other and make their voices heard through amazing music. And we bring this music to the public, online and in live performance, giving supporters like you the chance to listen and celebrate our shared humanity.
