The London Taxi Benevolent Association for War Disabled was formed in February 1947 and in the same year, the charity organised a convoy of 25 taxis taking 50 war disabled to Brighton. From 1949 to the present day, we have made Worthing our annual destination. In 2015, over 120 cab drivers volunteered their time to take part in the trip. Other outings include trips to Normandy and Arnhem to commemorate a number of different anniversaries. London taxi drivers and committee members give their time to ensure the success of these outings through driving and raising funds. The funding of the association is purely through charity donations and collections throughout the year. The charity’s patrons include Dame Vera Lynn and Joanna Lumley. Bridges Project is a long-standing, independent local charity which provides a number of professional services to assist young people aged 14 years to 22 years to manage transitions into adulthood and life beyond school. Our services are designed and offered to respond to real need and are relevant and necessary. We work long-term with young people from a range of difficult circumstances and backgrounds to enable them to develop the skills, competencies and aptitudes to compete in the local labour market, progress to further education and training, manage independent living, develop social networks and become active and contributing members of their local communities. Our multi-disciplinary team is innovative and energetic in its delivery of tailored casework and extensive group activities and is led by an active Board of Trustees which puts young people at the centre of all that we do.
