(UK, 1149391) Selby District Vision is a local charity committed to helping people experiencing sight loss, within the Selby District. First established in the early 1960's, then registered officially as a charity in the early 1980's, Selby District Vision has been assisting local people for over 50 years.There are an estimated 2,000 people living with sight loss in the Selby District today. We are dedicated to reaching those individuals, assisting and supporting them however we can.We aim to meet the needs of visually impaired people by providing information, resources, social and recreation opportunities; promoting independence. Striving to involve the wider community in our work, we provide the public with visual awareness opportunities and have regular community fundraising events.Receiving no state funding, we rely entirely on fundraising, legacies and donations to continue our work. OutreachOffering a home visiting, advice and support service within the community. Daily living aids and other useful equipment can be demonstrated and ordered, including: Talking aids such as clocks and watches, big button telephones, kitchen aids, home and leisure related items, anti-glare glasses, an audio library and much more.Talking NewsWe have a quarterly newsletter available in large print or on tape or CD. 'Selby District Talking News' is an excellent local talking newspaper, published weekly. The Urban Vocal Group

YTD Raised: £325.00The Urban Vocal Group is a free to access music charity for 11 to18 year olds who sing contemporary arrangements of current tunes and pop classics, providing professional vocal tuition and performance opportunities regardless of experience. The Charity was founded in 2008 by musician and teacher Charlie Fletcher whose aim was to create a community of young singers; offering a rare opportunity to bring young people from different areas and backgrounds together. The ethos of the UVG is simple; to offer young people access to a safe, friendly and encouraging environment which nurtures learning through enjoyment and aspiration through achievement. Members of the group not only learn correct vocal technique and multi part harmonies but also have the opportunity to write and record their own songs. Most of our young singers have never sung in choirs or had singing lessons. They do it because they love music and want everyone to do well. Over the past 8 years we have worked with hundreds of young people and hope to encourage many more to access free music making opportunities; helping them face the future with a little bit moreoptimism and a belief that they CAN achieve. We have been offering a wonderful supportive environment for older people in Lewisham and South East London to develop skills, exercise, socialise and generally prolong a healthy and active life since we opened as a Darby and Joan club in 1949.

YTD Raised: £325.00We specialise in running dynamic weekly KIDZ KLUBS in communities across the City of Brighton & Hove. These clubs are a brilliant mix of FAITH AND FUN! At present we’re running 5 weekly KIDZ KLUBS, but there are more in the pipeline. And it looks like we might be going beyond Brighton & Hove to elsewhere in Sussex and maybe even further! We also run a weekly youth group called KIDZ KLUB YOUTH (KKY) for children who have become too old for Kidz Klub. We believe it’s important that there’s a NEXT STEP after Kidz Klub when children enter Secondary School. That’s when some of our young people need our support the most.
