This October a team of nearly forty staff, pupils and parents from PGS will be pounding the streets of Portsmouth to raise funds for a school we support in Cambodia. Do sponsor us, and definitely come to cheer us on. The Portsmouth Grammar SchoolFounded in 1732 by Dr William Smith, philanthropic Mayor of Portsmouth, PGS is Portsmouth’s oldest school. It is proud of its traditions, but also ambitious to be at the forefront of good practice and proud of its success in being so.

We are the only membership organisation in the country to offer support and resources to community time banks providing inspiration, guidance and practical help. We share the learning over the past 15 years since timebanking was introduced in the UK to anyone interested in starting a time bank or to those who want to incorporate timebanking into organisations. We work alongside organisations and individuals in their local area providing operational support and clear guidance on involving people and creating mutual support networks in communities exchanging time rather than money. Please donate to support our cause.Timebanking links people to share their time and skills. Everyone’s time is equal: one hour of help earns one time credit to spend when you need it. We operate with an asset-based philosophy that everyone has something to give to help another regardless of age, ability or background. Redefining work and creating support networks empowers those who have been defined as service users making them decision makers.We work with community groups, time banks and community organisations to promote and support co-production and the development of timebanking. We also have a growing operational model where we employ individuals to set up, engage and grow time banks reaching the most vulnerable and disadvantaged in society. Refugees, those who are homeless, people with long term health conditions, those with high support needs and young people are all feeling the benefits of the timebanking mechanism. We have substantial experience of delivering high quality substance misuse recovery services including advice, information and harm reduction, needle and syringe programmes, specialist substitute prescribing, GP shared care, structured psychosocial interventions and structured day programmes. Our specialist services aim to prevent the harmful use of drugs and alcohol, by providing early intervention initiatives and effective recovery routes. We provide community based drug and alcohol services to adults and young people and deliver counselling within GP practices and community settings to ensure all services are inclusive Our mental health services offer holistic treatments for mild to moderate conditions and are tailored to each individual. We have become national leaders in delivering evidence based recovery focused services. Our ‘Stronger Families’ Service works closely with families across Kent to tackle a number of issues including offending, anti-social behaviour, employment, school attendance and improve overall health and wellbeing.
