(NZ, CC39174) Browse eventsGICI is dedicated to improving the outcomes for patients with gastro-intestinal cancer. We aim to increase awareness of GI cancer and raise funds to support clinical research in New Zealand, focusing particularly on clinical trials. GI cancer the term used for the group of cancers that affect the digestive system, i.e. the oesophagus, stomach, liver, gall bladder and bile ducts, pancreas and bowel. It is collectively the most common form of cancer, with over 5,000 new cases diagnosed each year in New Zealand. To improve the survival rates of GI cancer, we must provide funding for clinical research. Clinical trials are the final link in the chain of medical research that take discoveries made in the lab and advance them into treatments that can improve the quality of life for patients. Unfortunately, there is a critical lack of financial support for GI cancer clinical trials in New Zealand. GICI seeks to fill this funding gap to ensure that patients in New Zealand have access to the best possible treatments. With your help, we can kick cancer in the guts!
