YTD Raised: n/aWe are the providers of modern Braille, free software so that computers can talk to blind people. The modern computer that talks enables those who can’t see to read or write to enjoy all the benefits of the web, emailing, audio books, learning and leisure alongside their sighted families and friends. Up to now, this technology has been available but at a high cost to each individual, between £500 and £800 pounds. We give this technology away free from our website www.cfbp.org.uk to blind people anywhere in the world. Most blind people remain poor and there is no other way of including all of them in the digital 21st century - this is why over 300,000 blind people have downloaded our software in the last 6 years! There are over 350000 registered blind and partially sighted people in the UK and this number is increasing every day because blindness is a disease of an ageing society. Worldwide there are an estimated 20m blind. Our project is the vision of Margaret and Roger Wilson-Hinds, both blind, who know the problems, and don’t take a salary.

Cobden Cross Appeal

(UK, 1139416) Thank you for looking at our project to replace the damaged Cross on Cobden Edge overlooking Marple with a new much stronger structure. This wooden cross was originally erected in March 1970 by the local Churches Together and has since become a much loved, well visited landmark.An appeal for £25,000 has been launched to do this work. After loosing the top in winter storms, the remaining T structure is also now showing signs of decay, and it would not be wise to repair it. As the local Churches Together have been responsible for the cross since it was erected, they have agreed to take down what remains of the existing cross and replace it with a stronger structure of galvanised steel clad with wood to retain the original appearance. Because the site is difficult to access a professional building and engineering contractor will undertake the work.The churches are already holding events to raise funds. Many people, churchgoers or not, also value the cross overlooking our community and have been asking when it will be restored from its present T-shape to become once again the familiar cross. We are therefore also appealing for the support from the wider community in helping the target to be reached. Please donate to support our cause. Charity No: 1139416
