Helping people thrive The result of a recent merger between St Katharine & Shadwell Trust and the Isle of Dogs Community Foundation, EECF works to improve opportunities for people living in Tower Hamlets, Hackney, Newham and the City of London.   Although within the immediate vicinity of the City and Canary Wharf – the financial engines of the capital – and despite recent Olympic investment, the East End remains one of the most deprived areas in the country, characterised by: High levels of deprivation: Hackney and Tower Hamlets are ranked as the second and third most deprived boroughs in England. High Unemployment: Newham and Tower Hamlets continue to have the highest level of unemployment in London at 15% and 13% respectively. Child Poverty: The percentage of children living in poverty in Tower Hamlets (53%), Hackney (40%) and Newham (39%) is significantly above the national average of 28%. As a community foundation, EECF brings together local people, community organisations and businesses to work together to overcome these challenges.  We do this by using our local expertise and networks to:
