(IE, MYC0041) The Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain Rescue Team has been in operation since 1983 and has been a branch of the Irish Red Cross since 1984. We carry out rescue activities throughout County Wicklow and further afield when required. The team is wholly comprised of volunteers, but strive to provide as professional a service as possible. We can be contacted 24/7 by ringing 999 or 112 and asking for “Mountain Rescue”. Members live and work mainly locally to the mountains and will assist anyone who has become lost, injured or perhaps trapped due to weather etc. The team has successfully built a mountain rescue base near Laragh in Co. Wicklow, and it was officially opened in May 2012 by President Michael D. Higgins. This represented a huge organisational and fundraising effort by the team and supporting community members. The next challenges facing the team include purchasing and modifying two new rescue vehicles, and an upgrading of the team’s communications system. Both of these will prove to be expensive ventures but are necessary as older versions become outdated and obsolete. We are asking for assistance throughout the community, and for people to contribute in any way they can. Every contribution is valuable and goes directly towards saving lives in the mountains.

YTD Raised: £10,812.52GGS School Fund is a charity established to promote and advance the education of the students at our school by helping to fund a variety of extra-curricular activities, clubs and societies. The fund supports students, whose families suffer financial hardship, to participate in a fuller range of trips and activities and also supports our annual prize giving ceremonies. Funds raised at our annual sponsored walk raise funds for long term capital projects at the school, with a further 50% of the money raised going to student-nominated local and national charities. Such charities supported in recent years include Scope, Choices, Khalsa Aid, Porchlight, NHS Cancer Fighting Fund, Make a Wish, KASBAH, MIND and many more.

YTD Raised: $10,804.43About The Kids’ Cancer Project The Kids’ Cancer Project is an independent national charity supporting childhood cancer research. Kids get different types of cancer to adults. Research is the key to discovering more targeted and effective ways to help them. Since 1993, thanks to strong community support, the charity has contributed tens of millions of dollars to scientific research projects to help children with many types of cancer. Founder, Col Reynolds OAM, has a steely focus to make a difference to the lives of kids living with the disease. It all started on an ordinary day in the early 1990s when Col found himself driving his empty tourist coach past the Children’s Hospital in Camperdown, Sydney. After stopping to let two youngsters with bald heads cross the road, he parked his vehicle and went into the hospital on the spur of the moment. Touched by the spirit of everyone he met that day, Col made it his personal mission to help kids with cancer in any way he could. Very early in his quest, Col learned that the only way to improve outcomes for these children is through advances in medical research.
