FOECS are having to secure our school's future by raising £40k by July 2017 to expand our school from an infant school to to a C of E Primary school by September 2017. In the past year the school has succeeded in going through a process of change to become a Church of England Voluntary Aided School. The Governors are now pursuing the next stage in our long-term strategic plan for the School; to expand to become a full Primary School catering for children from the age of 2 to 11 years from September 2017. The proposal is to commence the expansion to Primary with the addition of Year 3 from September 2017 and then grow organically by adding a year group per year until we reach full Primary in September 2020.BUT as there are no grants available to help us with this cause we are having to reach out to our community and local businesses to help us achive our fundraising goal of £40k. This will help us fund a new classroom and a new teacher for September 2017. In the past 6 months we have raised £30.5k (Jan'17) so we're 3/4 of our way there which is why we are now asking if you would like to make a donation which will enable us to secure our school's future and hit our target by July! The Stephen Hughes Foundation has been set up by friends and family in memory of Stephen who passed away in October 2014, just nine days short of his 24th birthday, after a six month battle with Giant Cell Myocarditis. The Charity’s core purpose is to fund badly needed research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of Myocarditis, especially the rarer form of Giant Cell, which is responsible for claiming the lives of many healthy and active young people, often without any warning. A further purpose comes from Stephen’s love of participating in, and coaching, a wide number of sports, including tennis, football, table tennis and basketball, which he took into his role as a primary school teacher. The Stephen Hughes Sports Awards are being set up locally to where Stephen grew up, to provide funding for groups of children, of primary school age, who would not otherwise have the opportunity, to participate in a sport for social skills, health and self esteem purposes.

Amaha We Uganda UK supports the work of local Ugandans, in the South Rwenzori Diocese, to improve their standard of living, lifting themselves out of poverty. We help to empower local people through the provision of micro-finance loans to women’s groups, training and project work. The charity was formed in 2012 to continue the work of an umbrella group - called Hope for Uganda - which brought together 3 UK based church groups: The Parish of Wisley with Pyrford, Ash Vale (both in Surrey) and The Forest of Dean. Our work focuses on Women's groups as this does most to improve quality of life. Support has also included street kids and vulnerable young people. The support, started in 2006, has shown great benefits to the Women's Groups and particularly their children and families. Haircuts4Homeless is a registered charity set up by veteran hairdresser Stewart Roberts. Inspired by the actions of hairdressers in various parts of the world cutting hair for the homeless, Stewart set out not only to do this his self but to build a whole community of skilled hairdresser volunteers who give their time free of charge to give haircuts for homeless people. Homeless people have many challenges to face, one of them often being a low self-esteem. A haircut can have a great effect on someone, giving them a real boost. It’s often way down on a homeless persons priorities with what lack of money so the service proves to be very popular. One of people’s basic rights is for them to feel good about themselves and this service can give that to people. Hairdressers have a known empathy and are great communicators. The industry is known for its generosity and willingness to help people therefore there are many that would willingly give some of their time and expertise. We started the project in Havering and, with the right amount of support, plan to roll it out across the UK & beyond. There is something very personal about cutting someone’s hair that can be both enjoyable and therapeutic which is something that many homeless people rarely get. It may be "just a haircut", but it's the kindness shown that makes a homeless person know that people really care.
