(UK, 1132859) St Lawrence’s Church, Stoak is a Grade II* listed building which together with St Thomas & All Saints forms the parish of Ellesmere Port in Cheshire. The church has provided a place for people to worship, be baptised, married and buried for over 700 years. The time has come for us to ensure that St Lawrence continues to be available for these purposes by carrying out much needed restoration work to the roof and the stonework before time runs out. Corroded metal fixings mean that all the slates on the roof are loose and crumbling stone window frames let in rain and wind. The St Lawrence Restoration Fund has been set up to raise funds to enable this work to go ahead. We are also seizing the opportunity to put a time capsule in the form of a hard drive in the roof at the time of the restoration. The capsule will provide future generations with an insight into Ellesmere Port as it is today through videos, photographs, testimonials, newspaper cuttings and street maps.

YTD Raised: £335.00The Sheffield Open Heart Club (SHOC) was started in 1984 by patients, relatives and staff at the Northern General Hospital. SHOC has a team of volunteers, all of whom have undergone cardiac surgery themselves, and who are therefore in a good position to speak about things from a patient and relative’s point of view both before and after surgery. SHOC provides specialised equipment and items for the comfort and benefit of cardiac patients on the Chesterman Wing at the Northern General Hospital through fundraising and the donations it receives. SHOC volunteers visit patients on the Chesterman Wing prior to heart surgery to share their experience and answer questions about their surgery and recovery helping to allay patient’s fears. Volunteers attend pre-surgery information sessions for patients at the hospital as well as visit the wards. They respond to patient/relatives’ questions about ‘what it was like for them’. SHOC volunteers receive regular support and guidance from professional staff working within the Chesterman Wing and also as a Partnership Organisation to the Hospital Trust Volunteer Service. SHOC is a registered charity and affiliated to the British Heart Foundation
