People who live in rural areas keep our countryside beautiful and productive. The countryside is unique, essential, precious and finite – and it’s in danger. Every year, a little more is lost forever to urban sprawl, new roads, housing and other developments. Rural shops and services are closing, and increasingly intensive farming is changing the character of the countryside. Climate change, too, will have serious impacts on the rural environment.

(UK, 1126500) UBAKA U RWANDA is a Christian charity building on 5 years of local success in turning around the lives of homeless children and young people in Rwanda’s capital, Kigali. Our work helps some of the thousands of young people driven onto the streets by the combined effect of the 1994 genocide, rural poverty, and conflicts within families. We founded a centre in 2008 that provides a desperately needed home for young people who have been orphaned, neglected or left in difficult situations. The centre provides shelter, education and guidance with the ultimate aim to help them live a self sufficient life away from the street.
