(US, Shadowchase Running Club Benefit of Teens Run Modesto - N/A) Browse eventsTRM challenges valley students to experience the benefits of goal setting, character development, adult mentoring and improved physical health through a structured training program culminating in the running and completion of the Modesto Marathon. Program/projects: The goal of the Teens Run Modesto program is to help our youth gain the life skills, confidence and can-do attitude necessary to be fully productive citizens of our community through a structured mentoring program. Many of our students are at-risk, coming from broken homes and dealing with a multitude of negative circumstances, from gang violence, to obesity and poverty. Some are considering dropping out of high school and one in particular even considered taking his own life. Through the TRM program we aim to help students gain communication skills as well as the confidence and self-esteem to deal with these negative issues.

Our remit is to help children (up to the age of 18) who are disabled and who live in West Dorset and/or use the support of the DCHFT Children’s Centre in Dorchester. The charity was previously known as “Earlybirds”. Since our formation, we have helped many children and young people with a disability by funding items such as specialised tricycles, beds, mattresses, weighted blankets, buggies, car seats, harnesses and a range of leisure equipment. We have also helped to provide specialised communication aids and sensory toys. This specialised equipment is needed and used to enhance and support the children’s development needs. The children we help have a wide range of disabilities. Following receipt of an application form, we assess if and how we can help and allocate funds appropriately.
