(AU, 13002838495) CURE CANCER AUSTRALIA'S focus is to find a cure for cancer. One in two families are touched by cancer in their lifetime and Cure Cancer Australia is determined to improve prevention, detection and treatment outcomes to reduce the suffering caused by cancer. In 2014, Cure Cancer Australia will provide 28 research grants totalling $2.5million to the best young researchers in our country with fresh approaches across all areas of cancer research. $50 funds one hour, $1,900 funds one week, $8,300 funds one month and $100,000 funds one year of vital cancer research. Untold thousands of lives have already been saved as a result of research. However, one life lost to cancer is still one too many. Cure Cancer Australia will not give up on the fight until we can realise 'a world without cancer, nothing less. ' We simply couldn't continue our work without the support of people like you. YTD Raised: £53,676.83EDS UK was set up in 1987 to support, advise and inform those living with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. We aim to help them live a full, active and positive life. Over 25 years later, we remain the only UK based charity that exclusively represents and supports people with all types of EDS. We run regular events and conferences to bring our community together, and produce literature and merchandise to increase understanding and improve management of the condition. We have over 30 support groups around the country to provide our members with a local peer support network and we hope to expand this and create more groups in the coming months. We run a freephone helpline which is available to everyone, including people with EDS as well as friends, families, carers, and healthcare professionals. The helpline is run by a Registered Nurse with a specialist interest in EDS. EDS UK strive to educate the medical community, promote continuity of care, improve accurate diagnosis and provide information on specialist treatment and management of the condition.. We also fund vital research to further understand EDS, including searching for the gene responsible for the hypermobility type and working towards a cure. The activities of the Foundation are directed towards the following objectives: • To raise funds for the purchase of equipment and certain facilities at Western Health • To fund medical research undertaken by Western Health • To provide scholarships for the staff at Western Health Funds raised by The Western Health Foundation are not used to fund general hospital operating expenses. Government cannot fund all that Western Health needs to meet the ever increasing requirements of an expanding and ageing population. This is a challenge that is facing public health service providers throughout the country. As a community we can do much to help build Western Health so it can provide improved health services and facilities for the people of Melbourne’s west.
