(UK, 1092647) Browse eventsLeeds Asylum Seekers' Support Network (LASSN) was set up in 1999 to respond to the pressing unmet needs of refugees and asylum seekers living in Leeds: most of whom experience acute isolation, mental health issues, language difficulties and immense uncertainty over their asylum claim. In 2014/15 we helped 268 volunteers to support around 600 asylum seekers and refugees (and their families) LASSN volunteers provide destitute asylum seekers with emergency accommodation in their homes; offer one to one English lessons for people who cannot attend community based classes; help isolated people to make friends. We also produce information and raise awareness of asylum and refugee issues to promote understanding for amongst specialists and the wider public.
