(UK, SC024761) Browse eventsOur objective has been the maintenance and improvement of the quality of life for older people who live independently in and around Cockenzie/Port Seton and Longniddry. The Day Centre is the hub of the elderly community - it gives people a place to make new friends and keep in touch with old ones. Our activities help people learn new skills and hobbies, rediscover old ones, build confidence and have fun. We also provide a little bit of help and support and ensure that each service user has a nutritious meal. The Day Centre is a very comfortable and fully refurbished environment and is enjoyed by all who attend. Our key stakeholder, Health and Social Care Partnership – East Lothian, are seeking to expand the range of services provided by each of its Charitable Day Centres within East Lothian. Community support, through the medium of Outreach, is being encouraged, with Day Centres being available to explore support to the Elderly in their own home or in other suitable locations. There are many people who do not wish to attend a Day Centre but would welcome a different type of support that ensures they remain safe in their own living environment but also offers carers some respite opportunities

We are a charity founded and run by a group of former British volunteers who lived and worked in Vanuatu over the last ten years. At the moment, our efforts are focussed on the recovery effort following the devastating tropical cyclone Pam on March 13th 2015. Our cyclone recovery campaign is focussed on the island Pentecost, where we have the most intimate knowledge and means to provide the most valuable, targeted assistance. With your help, we will rebuild two fallen primary schools, replenish 40 kindergartens with books and stationary, and address the one off needs of as many of Pentecost's primary schools, health facilities and kindies as possible. See our damage report on our website. If you are a school student or teacher, why not sign your school up as part of our 100 School Campaign..? http://www.tanbokproject.org/100-school-campaign.html

(UK, 1163227) Browse eventsIn 2012, Larchfield Charity Organisation was established by James Berry working together with a philanthropic Tanzanian group as a Tanzanian charitable entity. Larchfield’s objective is to serve the desperate plight of the increasing numbers of Tanzanian orphans and children who have been abandoned by their parents and other family members through disease, or other incapacity to maintain the family unit. At present, there are only limited facilities in place in Tanzania to care for and educate these children in a suitable environment. A few children – if they are fortunate enough to be taken in by a foster family – only enjoy a second class status which involves being subordinate to and working for their host family. Other children, who are unable to find a foster family, are effectively abandoned, have to fend for themselves, and too often become victims of abuse. In Mkuranga district, one hour south of Dar-es-Salaam, there are numerous children in this position. The community and local government presently lack the resources to remedy the situation. To serve the needs of this district, it was decided to register a children’s home and school called ‘Larchfield’, to serve as a happy, safe and secure environment for Tanzanian children in need. The objective is to build and operate a purpose-built children’s home and school for children aged 3-16 years.
