(AU, 47164509475) Browse eventsThe Asylum Seekers Centre was established to support the critical needs of women, men and children fleeing conflict, persecution and torture. We support community based asylum seekers awaiting the determination of their application for refugee status. We do this by directly providing emergency and crisis accommodation, legal advice, nutrition, medical/health services as well as education, social inclusion and fitness programs. We work with and for clients to build the foundations for life in Australia through language lessons, skills development, employment assistance and placements. In doing so we aim to provide stability and security. We also work to advocate for the rights of asylum seekers to partake and contribute to community life. We currently serve over 1,300 clients, including 134 children, from over 52 countries. Many of our clients are survivors of torture and trauma. 70% of asylum seekers who seek our assistance are homeless and hungry. 35% have no access to Medicare, and over 70% have serious mental health issues.
