Portsmouth Down Syndrome Association (Footprints) provides essential friendship, advice and educational services to children and their families in Portsmouth, and the surrounding areas of South Hampshire. We offer a range of services encompassing all areas of Down syndrome, including coffee and information mornings, drama groups, social events and seasonal parties. We warmly welcome new families with a baby with Down syndrome. We also provide a wide range of educational services including early development groups, specialist speech and language therapy, and a specialist school outreach service (currently supporting our children in 40 schools across the area), as well as training for parents and professionals. While our members actively fundraise, we also heavily rely on the generosity of individuals and organisations to help us maintain our services. Thank you for your support which is very much appreciated.
Established in 1981, the Newman Holiday Trust began by running a one week summer holiday for children with special needs. The Trust now provides holidays for about 130 children with special needs aged four to sixteen each year, in various locations around the UK. Due to the high level of skilled care they require or financial circumstances, the children selected for these breaks would not otherwise receive a holiday. The holidays provide a range of fun activities in a safe and supportive environment and use a care ration of one helper to one child at all times. The Trust is an entirely voluntary organization and owes its success to over 200 people who dedicate their free time to helping these children. This voluntary structure ensures that every penny raised goes directly towards a child's holiday.

Our son Ben was diagnosed with DIPG, a very rare and aggressive brain tumour, aged 7. Previously fit and well, on diagnosis, we were told his tumour was inoperable and incurable and that we had at best a year left with our son. Despite taking part in a clinical trial and having intensive treatment, Ben passed away 6 months later. Following his death, we found little in the way of regular, ongoing support that was informal and for the whole family. To lose a child and feel that there is no help available to you is frightening and leaves you feeling isolated and vulnerable. We set up The Benjamin Pritchard Foundation – Be More Ben to enhance bereavement support and services for parents, families and siblings who have lost a child under the age of 18.
New Horizon is a day centre based in Kings Cross, supporting homeless and vulnerable young people aged 16 to 21. Founded in 1967, New Horizon has always been motivated by concern for the number of young homeless people coming to the Kings Cross area and getting drawn into a damaging lifestyle. In particular, young people who are involved with the drugs and the sex industry are seen as targets for New Horizon's intervention. Typically they are suffering from emotional and mental and/or physical health problems and are at risk of offending. New Horizon takes a holistic approach in responding to the needs, interests and aspirations of each young person and its main aim is to provide a positive future for this disadvantaged group.
