(UK, SC047995) Browse eventsIn November 2015, a 12 year old girl from Annbank asked her mum if every child got a Night Before Christmas Box like her. Her mum, Jodie McFarlane, explained “not every child is as lucky as she is, some children don’t get anything at Christmas time”. She was saddened by this and asked her mum to help her to make boxes for children in their local area so they could feel the same magic at Christmas that she does, Jodie and her mum, Isabella Mcfarlane started a small campaign. They collected and distributed 90 boxes with only weeks to spare before Christmas. In 2016, Jodie and Isabella continued their night before Christmas campaign and made it their mission to spread the Christmas spirit beyond Annbank and Ayrshire. Jodie’s friend Gail Fisher and her daughter Taylor Fisher joined the team to lead collections and distributions in Renfrewshire and Glasgow. We were overwhelmed by the amount of support we got from the individuals and organisations, who helped us smash our target of 250 boxes, we distributed 593 boxes. On a cold November morning, we spent hours in Glasgow giving out food, hats, gloves and hot drink vouchers (all of which were donated) to the homeless. It really opened our eyes and we were shocked to see how many people are currently sleeping rough on Glasgow's streets. At this point we decided we had to do as much as we could to help and we started collecting backpacks for the homeless and took the decision to register as a charity to take forward our mission.

(UK, 1055895) Browse events1st Chertsey Scout Group have recently celebrated 100 years in scouting. We are a popular group with around 90+ young people from 6 years old and a leadership team / executive committee of around 20 people. We are raising money for a new scout HQ so that we can provide scouting for another 100 year for the young people in the local area. The group are regulars in annual events such as Black Cherry Fair, Chertsey Agricultural Show, The Ploughing Match, The Christmas Post and other events in the area. None of this would be possible without the help of our enthusiastic leaders and parents. The hut we are hoping to build will be purpose built in Staines Lane Chertsey. Not only will it provide a top quality HQ to do scouting in but an asset in and to the local community. Now about the challenge we would like you to sponsor us for. Two of us will be walking all the way from London to Brighton. The walk, yes we must be off our heads but ha ! its worth it if it helps us get a new HQ. 61 miles (100km) is no easy challenge and we are hoping to do it around 24-28 hours non stop. Please sponsor us and know that every mile we do is helping us get another part of the HQ built. Hopefully we can make a good start in getting the money we need to make Chertsey scouts HQ the best that we can provide. Thanks for reading and hopefully donating to this Steve and Paul
