Eric’s beliefs in community service led local residents to set up the charity and centre in Edinburgh dedicated to inspiring, empowering, and supporting local people of all ages, cultures and abilities, as an expression of compassionate values. As an innovative local charity, it provides a day care service for people with a diagnosis of dementia, the Ca(I)re Programme: a programme of free courses for carers, office accommodation for up to 10 other smaller charities and rooms for other groups providing activities for the community.

(UK, 1182693 ) Browse eventsAbove Us Only Sky? is a Christian charity which was started out of a need to try to find immediate solutions for those who are living rough on the streets. For many homeless people there is no other option and the conditions that they face are bleak. Above Us Only Sky? provides life-saving, military-style, all weather sleeping bags, capable of keeping someone warm and dry whatever the conditions may be. However, the sleeping bag is just the start; we offer support in other ways too, meeting not just their physical but also their spiritual needs, to show them God’s love and to treat them with respect and dignity. Many homeless people who have received an Above Us Only Sky? sleeping bag attest to the fact that it saved their life and restored their sanity. We continue to work with the recipients of our sleeping bags to find accommodation, work and a sense of community.

We help retired and serving personnel and their families. At Turn to Starboard we regularly witness that it is easier to share experiences with others who have served in the Forces. By grouping these individuals together, we allow them to begin their journey of readjustment. We aim to help people leaving the Armed Forces gain qualifications that will help them find new careers in the marine industry. When two boats are heading straight towards each other, they avoid collision by following a simple rule of sailing – turn to starboard (turn to the right). We use sailing to help Armed Forces personnel and their families make the right turn.Based at Falmouth Marina in Cornwall, we are a group of Yachtmasters and volunteers – civilian, ex-service and serving who help military veterans get on the right track. We use Royal Yachting Association (RYA) sailing courses to support Armed Forces personnel who have been affected by military operations. We also provide sailing trips to enable Service families who have been affected by operations to spend some time together on a skippered yacht. Symptoms present themselves generally in early teens causing paralysis in the limbs with progressive brain abnormalities resulting in loss of nerve cells, visual impairment and possible juvenile Parkinson's. This is a genetic type of motor neuron disease. To date there is no cure or treatment! Conditions this rare receive very little attention and funding so with your help we can try to change this so our children can have a brighter future. The Maddi Foundation aims to continue to support medical research to help cure this disease and also help other similar rare diseases.
