(UK, SCO14096) Browse eventsWho we are: Poppyscotland is Scotland’s leading veteran’s charity, ensuring that ex-service personnel and their families get the support that many urgently need as they adjust to life on civvy street. Whether someone is struggling to cope with a catastrophic battlefield injury, or living with emotional scars that haunt them everyday, Poppyscotland is there, providing immediate and practical assistance. While we’re perhaps best known for the iconic Scottish Poppy Appeal each November, the demand for our services comes 365 days a year. Sadly, as a result of recent conflicts, that demand is increasing every day, but you and the money you raise can make a real difference.

(IE, CHY9097) Browse eventsValentia Island Hospital is a charitable facility providing long stay residential care, respite care and day care services for the elderly of the South Kerry area and is managed by a voluntary Board of Directors. Valentia Island Hospital was established in 1870 and has provided 147 years of unbroken service to the Iveragh peninsula in South Kerry to date. It currently provides long stay care for 16 elderly residents as well as providing a day care service and associated and ancillary services for the elderly of the locality also. The existing accommodation does not meet current HIQA standards so it has become necessary to provide a new extension to the facility which will provide single room accommodation to the required standards for 24 residents. The current bedrooms will be reconfigured and put to other uses in the daily operation of the service. This extension will also make it more financially secure for the future due to economies of scale associated with the 50% increase in capacity. The cost of providing and fitting out this extension is almost €1.5 million and has to be sourced by the voluntary Board of Management. Being a beneficiary of the Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle in 2014 and 2015 has been a huge boost to our fundraising to date and we are hopeful that this year’s proceeds will see the project almost fully funded when completed later this year.
