We have 6 specially adapted buses that pick up members and bring them into the Centre, where we provide support, advice, craft work, hair dressing, physiotherapy and freshly cooked lunches for all local people with MS. The Centre is open 3 days a week and around 70 people with MS visit each day. An army of volunteers help run the centre, without whom the centre wouldn’t exist. Fully self funded the centre needs approximately £170,000 a year to function and is one of the largest MS centres in the country.

We are saving and transforming children's lives through the simple loan of 6 goats and a donkey to each family, installing handpumps and providing clean water, training midwives and first aid workers, teaching farming techniques and providing essentials such as blankets, mosquito nets and solar lanterns. Our tree seedlings are already giving fruit to children and holding back desertification. By teaching villagers to run the projects themselves, everything we do is sustainable. Each donation is a lasting gift of life to a child.

(UK, 1155677) Browse eventsWe are a community-run library, created by local people for local people. Working in partnership with Hull City Council, we deliver a full public library service for both adults and children, supported by more than 60 Volunteer Library Assistants and many additional volunteers who help with the wide range of tasks that keep the library thriving. Beyond lending books, we provide a welcoming community space offering clubs, activities and events for all ages. From children’s craft activities to social gatherings and community celebrations, we help bring people together. Our coffee corner, serving coffee and homemade cakes, offers a warm and friendly place for conversation and connection. As an independent charity managed by a Trustee Board of local residents and volunteers, we also fundraise to sustain and grow our services. Every event, every cake baked and every hour volunteered reflects the strength and commitment of our community. We exist not just to lend books, but to nurture learning, wellbeing and belonging at the heart of our neighbourhood.
(UK, 1199545) Browse eventsThe Aim of the Windmill Project: The idea, put forward initially by the Trustees and developed through consultation with residents and visitors, is to conserve the Grade II* listed John Webb’s Windmill; create opportunities for community involvement and participation and explore new uses for the building and site, securing its long-term future with a central role in the rich heritage of Thaxted. We will use the scheduled capital works as an opportunity to provide work placements in traditional building and Millwrighting and promote careers in these rare skills. The sorting, cataloguing and conserving of the many agricultural, social and natural history artefacts stored in the Windmill will give students experience of working as conservators. Training in heritage skills will enable volunteers to be researchers, interpreters, guides; publicists and deliverers of learning activities. We aim to bring to life the stories of the people who owned and worked the mill and explore the importance of grain and milling thought the ages and across countries and cultures. There will be a new Museum and a sensory garden around the building. Virtual access to the upper floors will be provided on the ground floor. Maintaining the day to day running costs of the Windmill is also a key priority for the Trust and donations can also be made via our Website or Facebook page https://www.johnwebbswindmillthaxted.com/https:// www.facebook.com/johnwebbswindmillthaxted/
