(UK, 1199545) Browse eventsThe Aim of the Windmill Project: The idea, put forward initially by the Trustees and developed through consultation with residents and visitors, is to conserve the Grade II* listed John Webb’s Windmill; create opportunities for community involvement and participation and explore new uses for the building and site, securing its long-term future with a central role in the rich heritage of Thaxted. We will use the scheduled capital works as an opportunity to provide work placements in traditional building and Millwrighting and promote careers in these rare skills. The sorting, cataloguing and conserving of the many agricultural, social and natural history artefacts stored in the Windmill will give students experience of working as conservators. Training in heritage skills will enable volunteers to be researchers, interpreters, guides; publicists and deliverers of learning activities. We aim to bring to life the stories of the people who owned and worked the mill and explore the importance of grain and milling thought the ages and across countries and cultures. There will be a new Museum and a sensory garden around the building. Virtual access to the upper floors will be provided on the ground floor. Maintaining the day to day running costs of the Windmill is also a key priority for the Trust and donations can also be made via our Website or Facebook page https://www.johnwebbswindmillthaxted.com/https:// www.facebook.com/johnwebbswindmillthaxted/
