Glouucestershire Cave Rescue Group was formed in 1966 to provide underground rescue in the caves and mines within Gloucestershire. Over the years the groups area has expended to include the Thames Valley up to Reading. Although not a busy group it does have within its are a of coverage some very significant sites, including the 10th longest Cave within the UK at almost 14KM in length and another cave site where the Entrance Series of passages are Tidal. Both sites have seen a number of rescues over the years. There are many significant mines. Stone, Iron and Chalk. The members of the group are primarily cavers. It has its HQ in Cinderford where it stores its equipment but also has an indoor training facility as well as offices and meeting rooms. It works closely with the Severn Area Rescue Association who have assited with the provsion of boats for evacuation of casualties from the cave sites that are very close to the Tidal Section of the River Wye. It also has very close links to the neighbouring Cave Rescue Teams to provide assistance in the event of a large scale rescue and they also reciprocate this arrangemnet. All of the team members are Volunteers and the group runs on fund raising.
