DMD in short – Is a muscle wasting disease and has a 100% mortality rate. Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is normally diagnosed between the ages of 4 and 6. Between the ages of 7 and 12 these children become confined to a wheelchair as muscle deterioration becomes more advanced . Eventually major organs including lungs and the heart give in to the ravages of this disease. 90% percent of Children do not live to celebrate their 20th birthday. 99% of Children affected are boys. Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy has a 100% mortality rate. No child to date has survived.
