Heart Children Ireland is a support group for parents and families of children with a congenital Heart Defect. CHD is the most common of all birth defects affecting one in every one hundred children born at present. About half of all babies born with CHD will require heart operations and at present, over 400 open heart operations are performed annually on children from one day old to teenagers.We are a voluntary nationwide group and receive no government funding. We depend entirely on our own fundraising and donations from individuals and businesses. Over the past 18 years we have raised over €2m for the Cardiac Unit at Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin.We offer support through a shared understanding and awareness of the problems and needs that a child with CHD can bring. CFC ANCOP Australia has established 31 Villages in the Philippines and helped one in Papua New Guinea. It's main priority, currently, is to continue to sustain these villages by providing education and livelihood to its residents. To this end, CFC ANCOP Australia sends 480 students to school annually in the Philippines; 90 students in PNG; and 30 students for Rural Training Centre in Solomon Islands. It is the only charity providing free specialist nursing care at home for people with life-threatening illness in Bath,Wiltshire and Somerset. Most patients are looked after in their own homes, but short-term care, out-patient and day patient services are provided at the hospice in Winsley. All care is provided free of charge, but Dorothy House receives only about 30% of its funding from the NHS. This year, after NHS funding, more than £7,000 a day must be raised to continue to provide these services.
