Bright Futures UK supports young individuals through a period of illness by providing educational, social and professional support. We help young people bridge the gap to minimalize the effects caused by taking time out of education. Every young person has dreams, why should illness stand in their way? At Bright Futures UK, we understand from first-hand experience the pressure young people experience when faced with illness. We aim to minimize the disruption caused and help our young individuals build their skills, as well as their confidence. This is so that the transition back to normality is as smooth as possible, with the least amount of disruption to educational and social life. In 2017, we will be launching our first workshops and mentoring programs! Our mentoring programmes are tailor made to fit the needs of both mentors and mentees, whilst our workshops will be split into two categories; ‘alternative’ and ‘skill based’.We will also be offering tutoring services for young individuals continuing with their studies, as well as counselling services for those who need that extra support. As we expand, so will what we offer.Bright Futures UK is ready, are you?! (UK, 512912) Browse eventsThe Alan Shearer Foundation launched on the 31 May 2012, with the aim of supporting disability in the North East. For many disabled children and adults the facilities are there but not for them many supposedly inclusive environments provide access but fall short on participation or are just too expensive for the whole family to join in. Providing young disabled people with ordinary leisure experiences should not be a luxury, it should be a given. Our purpose We aim to raise at least £250,000 every year to help thousands of disabled people throughout the North East. In doing so we aim to: Offer a number of free and subsidised short breaks at the Alan Shearer Short Break Centre Continue to support and further develop the free facilities of the adjoining Alan Shearer Activity Centre Enable St Cuthberts Care to expand its disability provision across the North East

We have made a good start and raised £8,000 so far but need help raising more funds. The new room we would like to build will be called ‘The Valley Room’ and will be a multi-use learning space but it will predominately be used for music lessons, the Breakfast and After School Club and 1:1 learning which is so important for the children. Currently music lessons and 1:1 learning can happen in far from ideal locations such as in corridors or meeting rooms. This room will also be used by the local community too during non-school time by holiday and music clubs and so it will not just benefit the School children but the wider community too.
