Based in Crinken Lane in Shankill, there are an estimated 3,000 people living with dementia in South Dublin and North Wicklow alone. Unfortunately many families have to face the fact that their loved ones may need more support than they can provide for them at home and they may need 24 hour specialist care. At Saint Joseph’s Centre we cannot change the devastating effects dementia has on people and their families. But we can assure families that their husband or wife, mother or father, sister or brother is taken care of in a compassionate, caring environment where every staff member is focussed on delivering the best person centred care, tending to each person’s individual needs, (neurological, physiological, psychological, sociological), and acknowledging that their feelings matter most.Saint Joseph's Centre is currently undergoing a redevelopment, creating 6 'homes' within the centre for our residents to live and be cared for in surroundings that will resemble a home environment. We are also in the process of attaining the Butterfly Kite Mark from Dementia Care Matters, where the feelings of people with dementia are the most important thing in the provision of their care.Saint Joseph’s Centre is a part of St John of God Hospital Limited.

There are 15.6 million people worldwide living with the consequences of rheumatic heart disease. Most of these people live in areas with severe social and economic challenges. There are 15.6 million people worldwide living with the consequences of rheumatic heart disease. Most of these people live in areas with severe social and economic challenges. The effects of rheumatic heart disease are severe and include: The tragedy is that with early detection and proper treatment many of these devastating complications can be prevented. Early detection is best provided by ultrasound of the heart (echocardiography). Our volunteers will travel to Cape Town where they will screen school students from rural communities for signs of early stage rheumatic heart disease. Aftercare and treatment will be managed by the team at Tygerberg Hospital. Echo in Africa is the humanitarian project of the British Society of Echocardiography. We are grateful for the support of our volunteers, supporters and fundraisers.
